Numeracy Week and Pi Day

The week involved a wide range of activities for students across the school. We celebrated our Islamic heritage by learning to create Islamic designs and patterns, making use of Mathematical principles such as measurement, proportion and symmetry. We delved into the importance of numeracy in the Quran and the divine, as well as studying the contributions made by Muslim mathematicians to humanity’s understanding of numeracy and mathematics around the world.

The year 8 tutor groups took part in a Maths competition. They showed excellent teamwork, engagement and enthusiasm, and in the end the result was a tie between the three tutor groups, as all three of them managed to answer all the questions correctly.

To top off an excellent week, the year 7s developed their understanding of proportion, ratio and recipes when making rocky road in the dining hall. In addition to developing their understanding of these topics, students also enjoyed the end product of their labours.
